Age Limit
Date of Birth: Candidate must be born between 01 May 2012 and 31 July 2014, both dates inclusive.
The age condition applies to all categories, including SC, ST, OBC and Divyang candidates.

Admission is for Class IX against vacant seats likely to be available in participating Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for the 2027-28 academic session. |
| Class VIII Study |
Candidate must be studying Class VIII during the 2026-27 academic session in a Government or Government-recognized school of the district where the JNV is located and where admission is sought. |
| District Eligibility |
The candidate must be a bona fide resident of the concerned district, and the district of residence and district of Class VIII study must be the same for the JNV in that district. |
| Nationality |
Only Indian Nationals studying Class VIII in India in the concerned district are eligible. |
| Previous Class VIII Pass |
Students who have already passed Class VIII in an earlier academic session are not eligible. |
| Previous Lateral Entry Test |
Candidates who have already appeared for the Lateral Entry Selection Test in the previous academic session are not eligible. |
| Rural Candidate |
A candidate studying Class VIII in a school located in a rural area is considered under the applicable open and rural quota. A candidate who studied in an urban area even for a single day of the session is treated as an urban candidate. |
| Vacancy |
Admission is against vacant seats only. Tentative district-wise vacancies are provided in Annexure-II of the official prospectus and may increase or decrease. |
Total Vacancy: District-wise Tentative Vacant Seats
NVS has not announced one fixed all-India total in the prospectus. The Class IX Lateral Entry Selection Test is conducted against vacant seats in individual JNVs, and the tentative vacancy position is given district-wise in Annexure-II.

Merit List
The candidate must obtain the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by NVS in all four subjects. The merit list is prepared using marks in Mathematics + General Science + the higher-scoring language out of English and Hindi.

Selection Process
- Online application for Class IX Lateral Entry Selection Test.
- Appear in the OMR-based Selection Test.
- District-wise merit and selection are prepared against available vacant seats.
- Reservation is applied for SC/ST/OBC/Divyang categories as per NVS rules.
- Document verification is conducted after provisional selection.
- Residence, date of birth, Class VIII study, category and other eligibility documents are verified.
- Provisionally selected candidates must pass Class VIII during the 2026-27 session.
- Medical and other admission formalities are completed before final confirmation of admission.
- Final admission remains subject to vacancy, document verification and NVS approval.

- Recent passport-size photograph of the candidate.
- Candidate signature.
- Parent signature.
- Aadhaar number / Aadhaar Card details.
- Class VIII school and study details.
- APAAR ID / PEN details, where applicable.
- Birth Certificate issued by the competent Government authority.
- Residence proof of the parent from the concerned district.
- SC / ST / OBC / Divyang certificate, where applicable.
- Rural-area certificate for candidates claiming rural quota, where applicable.
- Other original certificates required at the time of admission.

How to Apply Online
- Visit the official NVS Class IX admission portal.
- Click on Register for Class IX Lateral Entry Admission (2027-28).
- Read the official prospectus and confirm your eligibility.
- Keep the candidate photograph and candidate/parent signatures ready in JPG/JPEG format between 10 KB and 100 KB.
- Enter the candidate's State and District of Residence.
- Enter the State and District where the candidate is studying Class VIII.
- Enter Aadhaar, Class VIII, APAAR ID/PEN, address and other required details.
- Complete the application form carefully.
- Upload the candidate photograph, candidate signature and parent signature.
- Check all entered information before final submission.
- Submit the application form before 30 September 2026.
- Download or print the registration form and keep the Registration Number safely.

How to Download Admit Card
- Visit the official NVS Class IX admission portal after the admit card is released.
- Open the Admit Card section.
- Enter the required registration details.
- Download the Class IX Lateral Entry Selection Test Admit Card.
- Check the examination centre, date and other details carefully.
- Print the admit card and carry it to the examination centre as instructed by NVS.

How to Check NVS Class 9 Result 2027
- Visit the official NVS application portal.
- Open the Class IX Lateral Entry Selection Test result section after declaration.
- Enter the required registration number or other credentials.
- View the selection result.
- Download or print the result for future admission formalities.
- The result will also be notified through the concerned JNV notice board and website, and selected candidates may be informed by Speed Post / Registered Post.

Important Instructions
- The last date for Class IX Lateral Entry registration is 30 September 2026.
- The application is free of cost.
- The candidate's district of residence and district of Class VIII study must be the same for the JNV where admission is sought.
- Only students studying Class VIII in the 2026-27 academic session are eligible.
- Students who passed Class VIII in an earlier session cannot apply.
- The candidate's date of birth must be between 01 May 2012 and 31 July 2014, inclusive.
- Application details should be entered very carefully because NVS states that the submitted information will be used for further processing and verification.
- A correction window for selected fields will open for two days after the application deadline.
- No modification will be allowed after the correction window closes.
- Selected candidates must produce original documents for verification.
- The OBC certificate used for admission must be from the Central OBC list as prescribed by NVS.
- Admission is provisional until eligibility and document verification are completed.
