Age Limit Age Limit: Candidate must be born between 01 June 2010 and 31 July 2012, both dates inclusive. The age condition applies to candidates irrespective of category.
Admission Details Class XI Lateral Entry Eligibility and Streams

Class XI Lateral Entry	Candidate must be studying in Class X during the academic session 2026-27 in India.
School Eligibility	Candidate must be studying Class X in a Government or Government-recognised school located in the same district where the concerned Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is situated.
Previous Class X Pass Candidates	Candidates who passed Class X before the 2026-27 academic session are not eligible for the 2027-28 Class XI lateral entry test.
Nationality	Only Indian Nationals who are studying Class X in India are eligible to apply.
Science Stream	Available against vacant seats in JNVs where the Science stream is offered.
Commerce Stream	Available against vacant seats in JNVs where the Commerce stream is offered.
Humanities Stream	Available against vacant seats in JNVs where the Humanities stream is offered.
Maximum Stream Choice	A candidate can select a maximum of two streams. Choices are considered in the prescribed order of preference.
JNV Preference	For each selected stream, a candidate can choose up to three preferred Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas from the options available in the application portal.
Total Vacancy: Against Vacant Seats in Class XI NVS has not specified one fixed all-India vacancy number in the Class XI 2027-28 prospectus. Admission will be made against the vacant seats likely to be available in individual JNVs, subject to accommodation and other administrative conditions.

Qualifying / Merit Criteria Minimum sectional score of 6 marks out of 20 is required in each test section. Overall merit is prepared using the subjects relevant to the selected stream as prescribed by NVS. For General/OBC boys, the prescribed overall cut-off is 21 out of 60. For General/OBC girls, the prescribed overall cut-off is 20 out of 60. For SC/ST/Divyang candidates, the prescribed overall cut-off is 18 out of 60. NVS reserves the right to modify the selection criteria due to administrative requirements.
Selection Process Online registration for Class XI Lateral Entry Selection Test. Appear in the Class XI Selection Test. District-wise merit list is prepared first for eligible candidates against available vacancies. Residence and Class X study in the concerned district are considered for district-level selection. Remaining vacancies may be filled through the State-level common merit list within the same State. Selection is subject to availability of vacant seats and accommodation in the concerned JNV. Selected candidates undergo document verification and medical examination. Once allotted, change of JNV or stream is not permitted as per the prescribed conditions.

Aadhaar number or other identification details as required in the application. Residence details / district information. Birth certificate for admission-stage verification. Category certificate, where applicable. Other documents prescribed by NVS at the time of admission.
How to Apply Online Visit the official NVS Class XI Lateral Entry application portal. Open the Class XI (2027-28) Registration link. Read the prospectus and confirm that you satisfy the eligibility conditions. Keep the candidate photograph, candidate signature and parent signature ready in JPG/JPEG format as prescribed. Enter State and District of residence and State and District of Class X study. Enter Aadhaar and other required personal details. Select up to two preferred streams. Select up to three preferred JNVs for each selected stream. Enter Class X school and academic details carefully. Upload the required photograph and signatures. Review the complete application form. Submit the application form before 30 September 2026. Download or print the registration form and keep the registration number safely.
How to Download Admit Card Visit the official NVS Class XI Lateral Entry portal after the admit card is released. Open the Admit Card / Hall Ticket section. Enter the required registration details. Download the Class XI Lateral Entry Selection Test Admit Card. Check the examination date, time and test centre carefully. Take a clear printout and carry it to the examination centre with the required ID proof.
How to Check Result Visit the official NVS Class XI Lateral Entry portal. Open the Class XI Result / Selection section after declaration. Enter the required registration number or other login details. View the selection result and score details. Download and save the result for the admission process.
Important Instructions The last date to submit the Class XI 2027-28 online application is 30 September 2026. Only students studying Class X during the 2026-27 academic session are eligible. The Class X school must be located in the same district where the selected JNV is located for district-level consideration. Candidates who passed Class X before the 2026-27 session are not eligible. The application is completely free of cost. Photograph, candidate signature and parent signature must be prepared in the required JPG/JPEG format before registration. Applicants can choose a maximum of two streams and up to three JNVs for each selected stream. Selection is made against anticipated vacant seats and is subject to availability of accommodation. Candidates from one State are not eligible for admission in another State. Selected students will have to complete document verification and medical formalities before admission.
