Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 (PMUY) is an important welfare scheme introduced by the Central Government to support women from poor and rural families. Even today, many households still depend on firewood or coal for cooking, which creates harmful smoke and causes serious health problems, especially lung and eye diseases. To solve this issue and promote clean cooking fuel, the government is providing free LPG gas connections under this scheme.

A major benefit announced for 2026 is the continuation of the ₹300 subsidy on every LPG cylinder. This subsidy amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Beneficiaries can receive subsidy support for up to 12 cylinders per year, helping families manage cooking expenses easily.
The scheme is designed mainly for women empowerment. Eligible applicants must be women aged 18 years or above and should not already have an LPG connection in their household. The scheme mainly targets SC/ST families, Antyodaya Anna Yojana card holders, and economically weaker households identified by the government. Applicants must submit Aadhaar card, ration card, bank account details, photographs, and a mobile number linked with Aadhaar while applying.
Women can apply easily through the official website pmuy.gov.in by selecting their preferred gas company such as Indane, HP, or Bharat Gas. Those who are not comfortable applying online can visit the nearest LPG distributor and submit the application form directly.
Overall, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 is not just a cooking gas scheme but a strong step toward improving health, saving time, reducing pollution, and supporting financial stability for poor families. Eligible women are encouraged to apply and benefit from this government initiative.
